Subaru WRX STI Version 6
Subaru B4
Subaru Baja

23-03-02 Currently is this not in .au so I emailed the Subaru.com.au to see if it was coming here and got the following response:

The Subaru Baja is not a vehicle planned for the Australian market at the moment, however, we have not closed all doors on this and the vehicle may be considered sometime in the future.

I can only wait and hope. And by the sounds of it so does Web Wombat. I wonder if the tray is big enough to fit a motor bike?

Honda CRF450R

Honda CRF450R 2004 model

I'd actually prefer the 'X' model now. I have been waiting for some time to see if it would actually become a reality. When Honda announced it would stop making XR 250 and 450's it seemed logial it would happen. Then on The 10th of Sep Honda Europe accounced that the 450X would be coming, I knew it would only be a matter of time before it came to Australia. Probably late '04.

31-12-04 It seems Honda has yet to set a date, but rumors are that Australia won't see a 450 version untill Sep '05. When they finally do come out I'd like to get a 'Camo' graphics kit from XGX (I need to check if they import) to style it up and protect it a bit.

11-05-05 Yesterday I won a 2nd hand B&B bash plate for a CRF so I really have to get one now...

My current 2000 WR 400's speedo is broken (I looked arround for a replacement over a year ago but it was over $100) so in last months Dirt Action magazine the 18 Function "computer" from Trail Tech (advertised at Riders Edge) caught my eye. I've always wanted to know what top speed I can get my bike up to, but often when you are going that fast you can't afford to look down. I'm sure one of those functions is a top speed record. [Another story: I was racing sprinting my 520 KTM along side a mate's newer 525 with a speedo with a top speed function and we got up to 262 Kmh - and then the engine seized. Stupid KTM]. I also wanted to get a Moto Minder for my next new bike to make it even easier to regularly do maintenace, but this speedo/computer has one built in (even better!).

Computer

Laptop

Before:

I'd like to run Apple's OS X but would switch to Linux if similar hardware was significantly cheaper.

Requirements:

After:

I brought an Apple Mac PowerBook. I was able to get a 10% discount and salary sacrifice through work, bringing the price for the 1 GHz version down to $3000. Not long after Apple brought out a 1.33 GHz version with a bigger HD and wireless built-in - such is life. It had all the things in my initial requirements but came with a 40 Gig HD and no wirless. But not soon after having it I upgraded it with an additional gig for RAM (eBay - $500) and brought a Airport Extreme card (eBay - $90), I also grabbed a skin to stop dog hair getting in my keyboard (ebay - $20).

I'm now considering getting a 2nd laptop for my wife. Probably an Intel machine though as she dislikes the Mac (which suits me).

11-05-05 Since the lead up to Tiger I've been considering updating my 1Ghz PowerBook G4 for the latest 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4, but a guy in the industry has a strong suspision that a G5 laptop will be released at the June WWDC and I can wait a month. But another friend of mine dropped the idea of getting a new dual professor G5 with the dual-layer DVD burner which is about the same price. Just as I got excited and started looking into this Apple goes an updates the iMac lineup which (too me) looks like much better value than a G5 tower, mainly as you still get the power (minus a processor) and the dual-layer DVD burner but with the extras like wireless, bluetooth and a screen which is what I have an use on my PB. So now I'm looking at these. BUT, and a big BUT, is the fact that I can do Flexible Salary Packaging on these - it needs to be a portable device *but I noticed in this months APC magazine that the Government may change this soon - hopefully before the WWDC). Soo untill June I'm still in limbo about my next Apple purchase.

30-06-05 After some though convincing on the advantages of using a Mac for video editing and graphic design, my wife finally agreed to buying a Mac. As dicussed before I narrowed-in on the iMac line and instantly dropped off the lower model (no Dual layer DVD burning). I finally decided on getting the larger 20" model (M9845X/A) thinking that the larger HD and screen (and been the "top model") the unit would hold a better re-sale price, if I want to move up to the Intel macs (if they are any good). But I'm typing this now on the iMac and I love it. All I need now is a decent keyboard and mouse (with a few extra buttons) - I'm after something that's cable-less and has some style, which narrows the options as a lot of keyboards are big things with a heap of extra buttons that you know won't work on a Mac. So I'm trying to win a Logitech diNovo, they are regularly appearing on eBay.

I'm tossing up a few possible ways to get HDTV at home, these are:

  1. Buy a HD set-top box ($800)
  2. Get a SD box ($180) now and get a HD one later when the prices drop
  3. Or build a HD HTPC ($2000)

Each option has it's pro and con and each is not cheap. So I'm staying with my last option until the hype settles and the prices drop.

  1. Stick with analogue as you don't watch much telly any way.

PS. If anyone wants more info on this I suggest reading the Sep 04 issue of APC mag.

Package

At the end of October SONY in Australia is releasing the DAVS880, with has a DVD with Dolby Digital, DTS®, .MP3 playback, an digital input (for the PS2) and 5.1 speakers (on stand which hopefully won't be easy for the dogs to knock over) and is at a decent price. See Sony Australia's special Home Cinema site.

I now have it. Brought it for $1990 ($300 off RRP) from Sony Central at Chatswood. I later brought a optical cable to connect the PlayStation 2 with from The Games Wizards for just under $20.
